What do my 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade resource classes all have in common? Conceptual misunderstanding of fractions! Over the next month or so we will be devoting a large amount of time to understanding fractions.

This weekend I made two quick products to help them: color fraction equivalence bars, and a fraction comparison game (in war style).

I can’t wait to get in the class and use them this week. I know the kids will really like the fraction war.

Because my kiddos are in resource, and missing an otherwise “fun” elective class, I try to make my class as fun and game oriented as possible. I’m hoping to make cookies with them when we get to adding. The more real life, relevant ways they can see fractions the better! What fraction activities do you use in your classroom?
